Marie Bourke Leadership Award

About the Award

Good principals make a difference. Great principals touch lives.

Glenn and Janice Friendt established the Marie Bourke Leadership Award to affirm and recognize the impact of great principals on the lives of students and teachers. The Award will annually recognize an outstanding principal in the Lincoln Public Schools. Principals honored by the award demonstrate outstanding leadership and continuous improvement in student achievement and development. The $1,000 award also includes participation in the Gallup Organization Leadership program to encourage continued growth in that principal's career.

 

Applying for the Award

Application Open: The month of February, annually
Award Amount: $1,000

Criteria: Any current LPS principal with 6 years in the role and:

  • Communicates a vision of what the school can become that inspires others
  • Provides leadership of students, staff, and community toward a shared vision
  • Creates significant opportunities for participation, shared decision-making, and leadership development by staff and students
  • Encourages community participation and involvement through meaningful partnerships and leadership roles
  • Structures the school for achievement
  • Demonstrates improvement in student achievement

Nominating Process: Nominations may be submitted by any individual or group.  Self-nominations are accepted.

Selection Process: The panel will include the Elementary and Secondary Education directors.
