April Mission Moment: U-Stop Tennis Complex Serves Up a New Era for Tennis in Lincoln

On April 15, 2024, before a match between Lincoln Southwest and Lincoln East, the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce cut the ribbon at the new JoAnn and Derrel Martin Courts at the U-Stop Tennis Complex.

We celebrated the donors who made this possible, Derrel Martin and Mark and Chris Whitehead of Whitehead Oil Company/U-Stop, at this event.  Because of their generosity, youth across the city now have access to a new state-of-the-art tennis facility.

“We’ve seen firsthand what can happen with with great facilities great infrastructure and we’re just proud to be able to get back to the city of Lincoln and perpetuate the momentum that we have going right now in the city of Lincoln,” Mark Whitehead, Owner of Whitehead Oil and U-Stop.

LPS tennis athletes were the first to use the new courts, marking a historic moment for Lincoln's tennis scene. This state-of-the-art facility boasts six courts equipped with lighting and bleachers, providing youth with fantastic new courts and amenities that will increase access to the sport.

We are forever grateful for visionary donors like these who understand the transformative power of athletics – how these courts will foster teamwork, resilience, and leadership in our students for years to come.

Thank you, Derrel Martin and Mark & Chris Whitehead, for making this incredible opportunity possible!
